Jenson Button, the Grand Prix World Championship leader, was in Birmingham on the 30th July as part of a Bridgestone Tyre promotion. He was surrounded by a large crowd and was happy to sign autographs for his many fans. He also posed with his Brawn Grand Prix car and gave many media interviews. One of the main subjects that kept occurring was the return to Grand Prix of Michael Schumacher. Jenson thought it would be good for the sport as Michael is a multiple World Champion, but thought it was through strange circumstances due to the accident of Felipe Massa. Jenson was happy that Felipe was making good progress in Hospital and was able to move around and open both eyes after the freak accident which had fractured his skull.
Jenson also said that if someone had said to him at the start of the season that he would have won 6 of the first 10 races, he would have been pretty chuffed. "The first few races were amazing". After not getting near the podium in the last few races, he hopes they can turn it around at Valencia, which is a hot circuit and should suit the Brawn Grand Prix car. "We also need to start examining why we can't beat the Red Bull cars when the temperature is cooler, or we are not going to win the World Championship. There are a lot of quick cars out there, and it is going to be difficult to get in to the points, let alone win, so its going to be a tough World Championship for anyone to win. We will get back on track for sure, but we have to work out why we can't get the cars working in cooler temperatures and other people can. I go to Valencia positive, and looking to fight for the win."
